Caring for school-age children is complex, rewarding work, that can sometimes feel like you are juggling a dozen moving parts at once. You’re supporting four-year-olds transitioning into school alongside pre-teens looking to claim their independence; often with limited information about the physical needs or neurodiversity within your group. You’re managing multiple transitions in a short time, and every child walking through your door is carrying the weight of a possible rushed morning or busy and tiring day at school.
This session is designed to help you move forward with intention and confidence. We’ll explore how building authentic relationships with school-age children becomes your foundation for responding to challenging behaviours. Using practical strategies from the Positive Early Childhood Education Program (PECE), we’ll focus on setting realistic expectations—for yourself, the children, and families—and adopting a self-regulatory approach that helps you stay planful rather than reactive.
Participants will walk away with steps to make their days smoother, responses more effective, and their program full of the joy and fun that drew them to this age group in the first place.
Attendees do not need previous experience with or knowledge of the Positive Early Childhood Education Program (PECE) to attend this session.
