School Age Professional Development Subcommittee

A Sub-Committee of the Child and Family Collaborative

 Terms of Reference

Purpose:         To serve as a clearing forum for issues, advocacy and planning in school age programs throughout York Region in a non partisan environment.

Objectives:

To promote a collaboration of partners to take a regional approach on matters related to service delivery in School Age Care

  1. To identify issues in the school age community,
  2. Ongoing work with Raising the bar and to support the development of recommendations to forward to the Child and Family Collaborative.

Membership:

Membership is invited from Professional Associations, organizations, agencies and interested parties involved with the School Age Care Community.

Each member must demonstrate an interest in serving on the School Age Professional Development Subcommittee and be cognizant of the duties and time commitment involved. Members must be able and willing to undertake active participation in committee and/or task force work.

Organizational Structure:

Executive committee will consist of Co-Chairs, and Secretary, who will manage the operations of the School Age Professional Development Subcommittee, which includes managing the correspondence of the subcommittee and representing it in the community.

The term of office for the executive is two years. Co-chairs will alternate their overlapping terms; therefore there will be an annual election of a co-chair.

Each member will carry one vote and a quorum will consist of 51% of the membership.

Accountability:

The School Age Professional Development Subcommittee is accountable to the Child and Family Collaborative through the terms of Reference and the Work Plan. After the review of these documents, the subcommittee will forward them to the Child and Family Collaborative for approval. The co-chairs will sit as a member of the Child and Family Collaborative and is expected to keep the Committee informed of the work the subcommittee and any issues or concerns that arise.

Minutes of the subcommittee meetings will be retained in the subcommittee binder and posted on the Child and Family Collaborative website.

The membership is accountable to the agencies/organizations they represent; the School Age Professional Development Subcommittee and the child care and early years community of York Region.

 Frequency of Meetings:

The School Age Professional Development Subcommittee will meet bi-monthly or as often as required to meet its objectives.

Orientation:

Members of the School Age Professional Development Subcommittee are responsible for the orientation and training of new members. Orientation will address this committee’s link to the Child and Family Collaborative as well as the subcommittee’s mandate, goals, and objectives, operational and organizational structure, finance, and broader child care issues as they relate to the subcommittee operations.

Terms of reference to be reviewed every two years or as required.

 Definition of School Age Care:

School Age Care refers to all programs serving children from ages 6-12 years, including, where applicable, kindergarten children; in licensed or informal child care or in a recreational program.
